Two players compete to see who can be the first to get 4 tokens in a line either vertically, horizontally or diagonally.
To play, choose a token to represent each of the two players from the Game Settings page and start the game. The players decide who gets to go first and the first player will drag a token to an empty space on the game board. The game does not automatically control whose turn it is so that players must practice taking turns and following the rules of the game. Player two will then move a token to the board and play will continue in that fashion until someone gets four tokens in a line or the game board is full.
When a player wins, their score will be incremented and then the players can decide if they would like to play another round. At the end of all of the rounds, the player with the highest score wins the game.
Question Formats
There are 2 ways that educational questions can be incorporated into the game: words or pictures can be displayed on the game board, or multiple choice questions can be asked when a student places a token on the board.
If you have chosen a Word List on the Choose Questions page, then the words or pictures will be displayed directly on the spaces in the game board. Using word lists in this game is a great way to practice reading words and speaking out loud. Instruct the student to say the word for the space they have chosen. On the Game Settings page you can choose to display the word or the picture on the game board and you can also choose to have the game say the word when a token is placed or when a word or picture is touched or clicked.
If you have chosen a Multiple Choice question set on the Choose Questions page, then a multiple choice question will appear when a student places a token on the board. The question will remain until the student answers correctly. Wrong answers do not result in the loss of a turn as this would give the other player an unfair advantage and make it easier for them to win the game.
